I would liked to have ridden to Mexico but ran out of vacation time. We rode for 12 days and made it as far south as Los Alamos. The Continental Divide Trail from Mexico to Canada is not something to be taken lightly, but for Scott Morris and his. Those trees aside, the terrain remained barren for the next 15 miles along. The only maintenance was one chain adjustment over 2800 miles. Four months, 3700 miles and nearly nearly a half a million feet of climbing. Meeting some Continental Divide Trail thru-hikers on the way up Middlewood Hill. I did have to dip into the Rotopax for fuel a number of days. I had a stock tank and added Wolfman Racks and a 1.75 gallon Rotopax. This map was made using our daily GPS data from our 2021 Continental Divide Trail thruhike, recorded with Renee’s Garmin Fenix 5 watch. I took it easy and the WR got about 80 miles per gallon. The only issue with the WR is that some times you ride pavement up mountain passes and it was hard to get the bike over 60.īetween Pinedale and Rawlins Wyoming there is a stretch of about 225 miles without gas. We found some single track trails near Steamboat Springs Colorado. It made all the "hard" parts of the CDR like Fleecer Ridge and Lava Mountain Trail just a lot of fun. We rode the CDT from Montana to New Mexico. The tracks even tell you where to take pictures. The official route of the CDT in New Mexico is 794.5 miles (1,278.6 km) long, although many alternate routes shorten or lengthen that distance. Most days we didn't bother bringing along any paper maps. A good flowing trail network will have most trails flowing in a single direction according to their intension. The tracks make the ride very easy to follow. Trailforks scans users ridelogs to determine the most popular direction each trail is ridden. I went with another rider on a Honda XR650L. I thought I would comment since I had so much fun on the CDT on my WR. Following the geographical line upon which the water goes either toward the Atlantic Ocean or the Pacific Ocean, the Continental Divide ride goes through New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming and Montana, covering around 2,500 miles of spectacular remote wilderness, from deserts to 13,000 ft high mountain passes.
